Reading the Leftovers (again) to study structure and the presentation of speculative ideas against a realistic setting.
Recently enjoyed R.M. Kinder’s A Common Person and Other Stories. She has a nice, relaxed but literary style. Pets, especially dogs, make a lot of appearances in these stories.
Read Colum McCann’s Let the Great World Spin and was impressed by the array of voices and expert storytelling. Followed up by listening to some of his podcast appearances.
Had a fun journey with criminals, bikers and boozers in Jordan Harper’s Love and Other Wounds.
A nice review for my story We Are Gathered Here Today in Kevin Kennedy’s Horror Tales from Ireland appeared in a Horror Facebook Group and on Goodreads. That was a nice little pick-me-up after not making the cut for the Write by The Sea competition. I don’t enter many comps, but having gone to that festival as a punter before, I’d love to make the short list
